Respiratory Care Programme

An innovative approach to improve the management of chronic lung disease at home

Nurse & Breathing Exercises (1)

Are you living with a chronic respiratory disease?

Chronic Respiratory Disease describes a group of conditions affecting the airways and other structures of the lungs, causing breathing difficulties. These include:

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): a chronic lung disease that causes obstructed airflow making it difficult to breathe

Chronic Bronchitis: a long-term inflammation of the bronchial tubes that carry air to and from the lungs resulting in swelling and excess mucus production making breathing difficult

Bronchiectasis: the permanent widening of the airways due to infection or inflammation, leading to mucus build-up

Emphysema: damage to the alveoli or tiny air sacs in the lungs, causing airflow blockage and breathing issues

Symptoms

Commonly shared symptoms of chronic respiratory diseases include cough, shortness of breath (dyspnoea), wheezing, excess sputum production, fatigue and frequent respiratory infections.

Treatment

While chronic respiratory diseases may not be curable, they can be managed with the right combination of medications, chest clearing techniques, lifestyle changes, preventative vaccinations and timely interventions.
